Abstract:

Two new bitectiporid species are described from Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil: Hippomonavella brasiliensis sp. nov. and Parkermavella spathata sp. nov. Frontal budding in P. spathata sp. nov. produces some unusual skeletal features which are briefly described. These new Brazilian records enlarge the geographic distribution of both genera (Parkermavella is a new record for the Atlantic Ocean and Hippomonavella for Brazil) and add to the generic and specific diversity of bryozoans known from Brazil and Rio de Janeiro, increasing the latter from 60 to 62 species.
